Tippler, I've got a question about the quest. What is the current premise intended to be at this point? I had some interest in the initial idea, but the unpleasant pre-quest hostility put me off of actually following it. The whole premise was apparently changed and now I don't know what it's about. I've got a vague notion of what it isn't about, but I don't know how much it isn't about it, or what to expect instead.

>>142963
>idk I didn't read the thread
At one point, I would have replied "you might as well take a look, since apparently none of the content warnings actually apply anymore". But I've seen a few posts while browsing the thread list, and it seems that some of them might apply anyway. Or maybe not. I couldn't tell you which ones. It might even warrant some new unlisted tags, I wouldn't know.

See what I mean? The original concept had some haters, but it was clearly communicated and everyone knew what they were getting into, whether they were attracted or repelled by it. Now we know it's changed, but it's not clear what exactly it was changed to.

hello comrade, good question.

I'd say the current quest is about the zillenial living experience, which can encompass many subjectively fucked up things while staying within the bounds of consent and rationality. I am enjoying running the quest.

Tippler, I would just like to say that I very much appreciate you're ability to distill our word vomit into quality content. Obviously every /quest/ author does the same but it feels to me that you do so particularly well. It's a freeing feeling knowing that even if I throw literal spaghetti at the wall you'll somehow know exactly which strand is worthwhile.

Also, are the comics on your itch.io everything? Do you have any long form content for sale somewhere on the web?

That is a very nice thing to say comrade, I like to think of the mutually beneficial quest author reader relationship from the author end as getting a mental shortcut because the suggestors do all of the hard idea generation work. I get to sit back, sip my fruity beverage, and mash things together. I think I have gotten better at distilling over the years but it is an art not a science.

My itch.io basically contains everything I deem appropriate for a link I share with irl friends, which is the vast majority of what I've produced. I am, of course, sitting on 100K words or so of extremely specific fetish writing that will never see the light of the internet. That is the longest form thing I've made because I like shorter projects, am a slow writer, and enjoy having wrists.

I would plug the patreon which gives access to my small discord server and very inexpensive art requests like the one attached and posted in the fanart thread, but I've spent literal years cultivating the existing members to be trustworthy participants in tippler society and frankly any new blood would fill me with dread and suspicion. Reading and (if you'd like) suggesting on my quests is all the support I desire!

I made the threat a year and a half ago and it's finally time.

With Edmango's blessing I am developing an extremely shitty renpy visual novel as CATALYST ACT 3!!!!!!!!!!! pog

What does this entail? 4 unique black and white sprites each for 8 characters, duty free sounds, and I'm hoping for at least 20,000 words, which is feeble compared to Ed's verbosity but i am a slow, bland writer and unless i pay ed to write most of it (which im perfectly willing to do), that's what it'll be.

Why i am telling you guys? Well I am asking for suggestions for the vibes you want in the game. I didn't follow CATALYST too closely during it's creation and I want Act 3 to capture the original threads' spirit.

I'm asking for THEMES. LITERARY VISION. And also if you want me to pay Ed to write it.

I don't know how long it'll take to finish but at most 3 months because that's how much i'd be able to take before going insane. Likely much less than that.
>>
No. 143703 ID: 6b8094

Catalyst was about building an army out of the town to fight a battle of good and evil but ultimately about reconciling two siblings on opposite sides of the conflict. Even if Cat's not the focus of the story, perhaps the POV is from someone with a similar conflict playing out on the sidelines.
Paying Ed for help? Yeah sure!
Personally for characters I would hope to see more of and maybe finish their arcs out they would be Iraphena, Mint, and Xana since you killed her in Tension

I'm hoping to see some themes of relationships between family and friends and how it effects the main characters within the face of the apocalyptic demon war, and the fight against angels, and if they are able to hold together through it, or even reconcile through it in some cases.

speaking of themes of family I guess I should mention in my quest, I did have (30 updates or less quest spoiler: Cannie show up at some point in my own quest 30 updates or less, asking the main character to give her the coordinates back to Catalyst's world so she can rescue her mother, Isabella, and Willamina, and take them and only them to a safer world with her so they don't have to face the conflict of the war and apocalypse due to regret of leaving them behind

while I haven't updated my quest and the results in awhile due to me being super busy, the suggestors did suggest to give her a way back home as the answer. If you and/or Ed (if he's writing the story) wants, you could potentially bring her back in the story in some way, shape or form to reflect that choice, but it's up to you ultimately.

Seeing Ed write the finale would also be rad,

The themes of CATALYST...

When I think about CATALYST, the surface level answer I'd jump to is something like "Progression". There are a lot events in which characters gain new abilities, equipment, connections, roles, etc. Hell, that's the ability that makes Cat special, his ability to AWAKEN others and level them up.

I'm gonna focus on Cat for a minute, as I think understanding his values help clear up what the story is really about. Looking at Cat's role in the story in relation to the war, his job is to consistently change the playing field, pushing things towards an outcome where they might just be able to win against whatever awaits them. Demons, Angels, etc. He's, quite literally, a CATALYST.

As a character, Cat's not particularly complex. He's a hero by obligation moreso than choice, accepting the responsibility that his knowledge and powers forces him into. He didn't come to town looking for any of this. Hell, he was more than happy to settle in as a postal worker, making friends, getting into horny shenanigans, and just enjoying a nice and simple life. When it comes down to it though, he just cannot keep his head down when the opportunity to help is on the table. He digs up old mysteries that people are happy to let rest, risks his security by AWAKENING others if it can help them, and tries to make friends with even the Cannie-est of people. Cat fights because it needs to be done, and he clearly has the means to do it. It wasn't even a question for him whether or not he should.

Thinking deeper, I think one of the most important elements of CATALYST are the "Connections" between characters.

We care about the war for the same reason Cat does: Because we've met so many people whose lives could be ended by it. We don't want to lose Willamina, Andrea, Nail, or anyone else to this stupid cosmic bullshit. Hell, Cat's power literally requires him to find allies he can trust, as he can only AWAKEN others, not himself. Finding the right companions is a really big deal. It's why all of his interactions matter, from the plot-heavy ones like meeting Liminal and realizing he's Max or learning about the war, to the smaller stuff like going out on a date with Andrea, choosing not to out Isabella as AWAKENED to her companions, hell, even the side stuff like Gena and Andrea hanging out and watching television in the side-thread. It isn't "filler", it's the context we need to be personally invested in the plot.

Not to dredge up old controversy, but I think this is why major life-altering events taking place off-screen as a side element of Queen of Hell was such a tough pill for me to swallow. The story of CATALYST is about the lives of these characters and taking the steps we can to protect them in the face of the apocalypse, and suddenly everything had changed when we weren't looking. We missed some pretty damn big stuff! Cat's mom coming back, the initial attack on Lyst, several characters' deaths, including Cat???

I think there's a lot of things you can get away with in a time-skip, but there's a point where coming back you gotta wonder if these are even the same characters you were following from the outset.

To put a bow on this thought that's gone on for way too long: I think the most important thing for this game is to reintroduce the relationships that CATALYST got us invested in, and help us understand where they are in the wake of the parts we weren't privy to. Because if I don't understand who these people are anymore, or how they feel about each other, then I will not have it in me to care about the apocalypse they're trying to prevent.

these are lovely zealot, your sophisticated mind always inspires me.

there's still a good bit of henryjess quest left, since we have time skip mechanics we will get to time skip to post divorce future to see how the two are doing apart.

i do have an idea for a new quest already, which will be vegan soapboxing that is secretly hard vore fetish (classic tippler). more importantly there will be a big tiddy snake lady. the only problem is it's another realism pilled somewhat depressing setting, which means i might need to pivot to something fun and silly first to mix things up.

it doesn't help that i have been working on an entry for this game jam (https://itch.io/jam/toxic-yuri-vn-jam) where the main villain is comically evil to the point of being fucking annoying. i am seeing why toxoglossa does not let gabe kill 2025. sometimes you want the fictional realm to be good and hopeful and lighthearted.

we are going to finish henry pov with henry's search for hotted boobs, and then end thread 2 and the story with jess after final several month time skip since henry started and ended thread 1.

we are not going to see the rest of their lives, so who knows where they end up in the long run. it is more about the marriage and its aftermath

I for one would love to see more of Jess sometime afterward. Henry has issues sure but he's otherwise a more or less normal guy. Meanwhile I can see this to being a significant part of a freaken villain backstory for Jess, at least the way things are goin, lol. Doesn't even have to be another domestic story, shit throw an apocalypse or a magic in there or something I just think Jess is an interesting character to follow.

a couple reasons, mostly meta ones

first, as you can see, part of the fun is making Lucy grapple with the taboo. gotta make you guys work for it a little

second, going for historical pseudo-accuracy, i don't think the average housewife was terribly kinky, nor pet chastity devices widely available

third, henry jess quest and my Toxic Yuri VN (as seen in the attached image) both featured major characters that were mostly sexually shameless, for good and bad. i like mixing things up.

also, i don't think he would want to draw rabbits getting domed. in my time working with him i always encouraged more brutality than he's naturally inclined toward.

Ah, that's understandable. I wouldn't want you to have to compromise your artistic vision to work with a collaborator.

It would help to have a slower update schedule, though. You would have more time to rest between updates and the readers would have more time to consider their choices.
